Ivermectin is an antiparasitic agent effective in the treatment of onchocerciasis, or "riverblindness". Since Ivermectin acts to prevent the adult worm from producing microfilariae,it needs to be administered only once or twice a year.

Ivermectin has a good repellent effect on nematodes and arthropods on the body. For cattle, sheep, and pigs, the extermination rate of larvae is 97%-100%. It is also very effective for arthropods, such as fly maggots, mites and lice. 

It is slightly less effective for chewing lice and sheep tick flies. Ivermectin is also very effective against ticks and flies that reproduce in feces. Although the drug cannot kill ticks immediately, it can affect feeding, molting and egg laying, thereby reducing reproductive capacity. The effect on blood flies is similar. Not effective against flukes and tapeworms
