Tetracaine is a topical local anesthetic that acts by interfering with the input of sodium ions into nerve cells. Stop using Tetracaine and call your doctor at once if you have the following signs:

l severe burning, stinging, swelling, or other irritation of the treated skin;

l oozing, blistering, or any signs of infection;

l dizziness, drowsiness, or feeling like you might pass out;

l nausea, vomiting;

l slow, fast, or irregular heartbeats.

The other common side effects of Tetracaine may include:

l mild stinging, burning, or itching where the medicine is applied;

l skin tenderness or redness;

l numbness in places where the medicine is accidentally applied.

Some signs of side effects caused by Tetracaine may need immediate medical attention although not all of these side effects of Tetracaine may occur, such as blurred vision, chest discomfort, confusion, dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness, fainting, fast or irregular heartbeat, seizures, or shortness of breath.

If Tetracaine is used for treat epidural anesthesia, the usual concentration is from 0.15% to 0.3% solution, combined with Lidocaine Hydrochloride, while the highest concentration is 0.3%. The usual dose of Tetracaine is from 40 to 50mg and the maximum amount is 80 mg.

If using Tetracaine to cure subarachnoid block, its mixture is commonly used that mix 1% Tetracaine Hydrochloride, 1ml of 10% glucose injection with 1ml of 3% ephedrine hydrochloride. The usual dose of Tetracaine is 10mg, while 15mg is the limit, and 20mg is the maximum.

If Tetracaine is to treat nerve transmission block, the usual concentration is from 0.1% to 0.2%. The usual dose of Tetracaine is from 40 to 50mg, while the maximum amount is 100mg.

If Tetracaine is used for mucosal surface anesthesia, the usual concentration is 1% that 1% isotonic solution for ophthalmology, 1% to 2% solution for otolaryngology, while the limit amount of Tetracaine is 40mg.
